Ballachurry Reserve: Tuesday morning, 24th June 2025.

mellow yellow meadow!

An impromptu visit to the Reserve on Tuesday.  After a wet start the morning suddenly improved and I decided to "seize the day" and visit Ballachurry. This meant I did not start until 10 o'clock and there did not seem to be as many birds about as usual. No Sedge Warblers to be seen or heard, for example, no Robins, no Great Tits and no Reed Warblers. The morning definitely belonged to the insects though and just about every Hogweed flower was covered in Hoverflies. Here is my report:

Birds:

SC209694 Blackcap heard not seen; Wren heard not seen; Pheasant heard not seen; 5 x Goldfinch flying over, and perched from time to time; female Blackbird flying over.

I'm always interested to see what other people have seen on the Reserve!

I enjoyed my visit to the Reserve, especially when the sun came out, but was disappointed not to have seen an Eagle or T. Rex!

This was my final visit of the month but I am looking forward to seeing what July brings.
