Ballachurry Reserve: Friday, 9th May, 2025.

Although I generally prefer to visit the Reserve in the morning, this week I ran out of opportunities and went instead straight after lunch on Friday, arriving about 1.30ish. I parked behind a Wildlife Trust van and was curious to know which member of staff was on site. It wasn't long before I heard voices, turned a corner and met Rachel, the Trust's new Education Officer, who was being given an initial tour of the Reserve by Karen from the Southern Group Committee. Later I received this photo of a Maybug ( Cockchafer beetle) from them, which they had spotted on their way out.

 This is a new record for the Reserve! Imagine discovering a new species on your very first visit - how cool is that! Here is my own report:

Birds: 

SC209694 Goldfinch x 2; Chaffinch x 2 ( male & female); Sedge Warbler heard not seen; Willow Warbler heard not seen; Chiffchaff; Robin.

A very pleasant afternoon's visit. I didn't manage to photograph many birds on this occasion but perhaps the Butterflies made up for that.
