I was unable to attend the first Work Party of 2026 myself but the Ballachurry Bashers have kindly allowed me to post their short account of the morning on the Blog, together with a few photos.
What a lovely day, with some wonderful efforts from our Coppicing and Dead Hedge Team!
Earlier in the week, a qualified MWT staff member visited the reserve
to coppice trees opposite the hide. Coppicing encourages fresh new
growth, which is highly attractive to aphids, caterpillars, and many
other insects – and where there are insects, there are birds!
Last year’s coppicing has already made a noticeable difference.
The coppiced material has been put to great use, with a new dead hedge now created across from the pond.
A huge thank you to all of today’s hard-working volunteers, and to
our lovely cake providers (always very much appreciated!). We hope to
see many more of you again in 2026.--
