I took advantage of the fine weather on Monday to make my final visit of August to the Reserve. Here is what I recorded:
Birds:
SC209694 Mallard; juvenile Moorhen; Blackbird; Swallow flying over.
SC208694 Robin; Water Rail ( this was feeding by the boardwalk bridge. I didn't see it so put it up as I walked over the bridge. It flew off along the stream and vanished into the reeds. It gave me quite a fright!)
SC209695 4 x Blackbirds together taking berries from Rowan near Private entrance.
Butterflies:
SC209694 Speckled Wood x 3; Small Tortoiseshell x 2; Common Blue
SC208694 Common Blue x 2 ; Speckled Wood ;
SC208695 Speckled Wood x 3
Ladybirds:
SC209694 2 x 7-spot on thistles and 4 in gorse
Other:
SC209694 2 x Gorse Shieldbugs in gorse
SC210694 Carder Bee on Burdock flowers
SC210694 Marmalade fly ( Episyrphus balteatus)

|
 |
but this 7-spot was still active |
 |

this might be a Hawthorn Shieldbug nymph - red shoulders just starting |
 |
an autumnal look to the Reserve now |
 |
a close up of the new structures on the roof |
 |
the acorns are very large
|
 |
