Ballachurry Reserve, Work Party planned for 19th November.

Just a reminder that our next Work Party at Ballachurry Reserve is this coming Saturday, 19th November between 10 and 1 o'clock.  Do come along for just half an hour or the full 3 hours if you can make it - every little helps.

If we can source some wire netting in time we'll be replacing the rusty stuff on the Bridge which is in poor condition. We'll need 3 or 4 people to do this job. If time/manpower permits we also want to put wire netting on the smaller bridge by the dam. We are borrowing some small wire cutters but if you have some they could be useful.

The main task this time will be cutting back vegetation along the streams and dredging out silt/ debris. Wellies /gloves essential. Extra shovels, spades, & loppers  would be useful although some will be provided. Four or five people along the stream would make a good team.

We shall also be digging out some clods from one of our compost heaps and using them to fill in ruts in the area where we planted wild flowers with Andree a little while ago. This will  make mowing the area with the Decimator much easier for our Reserves Officer.  A couple of barrows will be provided. Two or three people could make short work of this job.

Other jobs might include weeding the grass out of the hide ramp and boardwalk, planting a few butterfly nectar plants near the entrance, and painting the fresh timber inside the hide to match the rest. Now the roof is finished on the hide we need to give it a general tidy up inside so we can bring back the Bird I.D. books, Wildlife magazine exchange  and put up  the Notice Board and a few bird photos again.

Then there's the rest of the ditch we started last time.......   etc. etc!

Hot drinks/ cake provided. Contact is Janet Thompson on 07624 428953 or email jthompson@manx.net

Hope to see you there!
