Ballachurry Reserve: Work Party, 10th November, 2018.

Hello Everyone,

"Bright with sunny spells and scattered showers" is forecast for Saturday morning so the Work party is going ahead from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. tomorrow. Hopefully we'll dodge the showers but can take refuge in the hide or our cars if necessary. The showers are more likely in the afternoon so we may get away with it. The priority task is barrowing gravel to the grids and raking it in. However, if after all this rain the ground conditions make this tricky we'll swap to another task. I had reed bed maintenance penciled in as a secondary task but this too might be a problem after the rain so it might be time to assault the brambles instead. A little weeding of the ramp and boardwalk might also be necessary.

In other words, please come prepared for anything! We have been promised 4 barrows as well as those that live on site. We need shovels for loading the gravel into them and rakes and stiff brooms for sweeping the gravel into the grids.

For working on the reed bed channel we need secateurs, loppers, rakes and sickles.

For brambles, secateurs, loppers, shears etc.

Work gloves essential for some of these tasks, suitable footware such as wellies, eye protection for the worst of the brambles.

We have some spare tools /eye protection but if you can bring your own it always helps.

Refreshments provided at half time. I'll bring spare mugs but again if you can bring your own that helps.

Hope to see some of you there and thanks in anticipation for your help. As always, do check email (if you are on the list) or the Blog before setting out just in case the forecast changes overnight and we have to cancel.

Best wishes,

Sheila
