Ballachurry Reserve - 3rd August 2020


Lovely Loosestrife

Possibly my only chance of the week to make a recording visit to Ballachurry. The sunshine was coming and going by degrees and the reserve seemed quiet birdwise but the butterflies were flitting around and there were plenty of other invertebrates to be noted. Here is what I saw:

Birds:

SC209694 Blackbird;  2 x Woodpigeon; juvenile Moorhen; 3 x Mallard; Heron flying over.
SC208694  Willow Warbler heard but not seen; female Chaffinch

Butterflies & Moths:

SC209693 Wall Brown male
SC209694 Meadow Brown; Speckled Wood; Unidentified White flying; female Wall Brown
SC208694 Meadow Brown; Common Blue; Small Copper
SC208695 Peacock; Meadow Brown
SC208695 Udea lutealis Moth

Ladybirds:

SC208694 7-spot
SC209695 3 x 7-spot

Other:

SC209694 Green Shieldbug nymph; Dolichopodid fly ( possibly Chrysotus species)
SC209695 and SC209694   Gorse Shieldbug adults and nymphs various instars
SC208695 Labyrinth spider in gorse ( Agelena labyrinthica) NEW RECORD?
SC209695 Wolf spider with egg sack
SC209694 Ichneumon Wasp ( possibly Ichneumon stramentor) NEW RECORD?
SC208695Muscid Greenbottle flies ( proabably Eudasyphora cyanella); Sargus species fly ( Soldier fly);Flesh fly ( Sarcophaga species)

 very pristine


it then closed its wings for a very long time

 

Small Copper

Udea lutealis moth
 7-spot Ladybird

and another in the gorse



The Angelica now in full bloom

Water Forget-me-nots

Loosetrife in the meadow


 Labyrinth Spider

Wolf spider with egg sack

Plenty of berries for the birds
They eat Dock seeds too

Ichneumon Wasp
Possibly male Ichneumon stramentor

 A Muscid Greenbottle - probably Eudasyphora cyanella

Sargus species ( Soldier fly)


 Flesh fly, Sarcophaga species

Dolichopodid Fly ( possibly a Chrysotus sp.)  with Green Shieldbug nymph

and another  -
they change colour through various instars

 I think this is an empty case

from which this Gorse Shieldbug had just emerged

its colours were darkening very quickly
