Work Party Reminder!
Pea gravel kindly donated by MWT Corporate Member, Corletts. |
We'll be using the above pea gravel to fill in the short section of grids that we put down at a previous work party. Barrows and shovels useful, although the Committee will be providing some too.
We'll also be cutting back any brambles that are arching over the paths, pruning a couple of willows that are doing likewise at face level, and removing bracken, dropwort, and hogweed that has fallen under foot. Loppers/ secateurs needed for this job and perhaps a trug for the debris (we have a few spare secateurs available). Gloves for handling the hogweed (dodgy sap) and brambles (ouch!) recommended.
Although docks provide seeds for the birds in winter, we don't want them to take over the reserve completely. Because of nesting birds we can't yet attack those on the main part of the reserve but we'll be taking off the seed heads of those lining the paths, if time permits.
Sorry for late notice. I've not been able to visit the reserve for the last couple of weeks, but will be posting news of the Bat/Moth event + photos from my recording visit yesterday afternoon very shortly.
