Anyway, let's hope it is third time lucky and the work party can go ahead this coming Saturday, 11th March. We are also hoping to be able to strim/ rake off a couple of areas but, again, this is weather dependent.
I did go down very briefly to the Hide on Saturday afternoon to put up a notice about stamps. Did you know that every year the RSPB raises between £10,000 and £15,000 from the sale of used postage stamps? This money is currently being used for their Albatross Appeal. Birdlife International and the RSPB are working together to show fishermen simple ways to avoid catching albatrosses on their baited hooks in the southern oceans. If you would like to help the RSPB in this way you can send your used postage stamps to R.S.P.B. Stamps, P.O. Box 6198, Leighton Buzzard, Beds. LU7 9XT. Just leave 1/2cm of paper around the stamp. I believe it helps them to have foreign stamps packaged separately and marked "Foreign Stamps only". Manx stamps may count as foreign - they certainly used to be quite sought after. This is a very simple way to help a bird charity by saving something that might otherwise just be pulped along with other paper re-cycling.
Whilst there I did a quick circuit in my wellies and noted the following birds:
SC209694 ( from Hide) Great Tit;
SC208694 ( path through willows) Long Tailed Tit; Chaffinch;Great Tit; Blackbird; Blue Tit.
SC208695 ( old beehives loop) Chaffinch; Goldfinch; Great Tit;
SC209695 ( orchard entrance area) Song Thrush; 2 x Great Tit together.
