Ballachurry Reserve, 4th December 2017

Dull December Day

From the forecast Monday sounded the best day of the week in terms of sunshine so I planned to visit Ballachurry this afternoon. But what a disappointment! There was still no sign of any breaks in the cloud by 2.30 but I decided to visit the Reserve anyway. It was decidedly gloomy and my camera was encouraging me to use the flash throughout the afternoon. This was clearly pointless when the bird I wished to photograph was several yards away! At first there was very little bird life about but as the day grew gloomier still they began to appear so I was able to make a few notes.

Birds:

SC210694 Song Thrush
SC208694 Robin; female Chaffinch; Wren;  2 x Blackbird; Great Tit; Blue Tit; 2 x Goldcrest; Dunnock
SC208695 Dunnock; Wren heard but not seen;
SC209694 Blackbird; 3 x Redwing seen in firs of Old School House; Robin heard but not seen; 2 x Long Tailed Tit
SC209694 ( from hide) Wren; male Pheasant; juvenile Moorhen (looking darker) ; Sparrowhawk flew over water at low level. Robin heard but not seen.

A large flock of  corvids were circling over the reserve as I was leaving and part of the flock came down into a tree on the Church boundary.
