this one was semaphoring madly with its wings

closer view

one of many hoverflies enjoying the sunshine
Steve Crellin tells me it is a female Eristalis ( maybe arbustorum
going by the white face)

hopefully the aphids will attract Ladybirds

Colourful capsid bug

most of them were on buttercups

none of the illustrations in my insect book look quite right

but I'll try to get them identified

will try to have this damselfly identified  too-
may be a female Blue Tailed

 A Muscid fly

and another

this one is a hoverfly - Eristalis species

as is this one with a rather flattened body
possibly a Syrphus species

leaf hopper on green rowan berries

mating Hawtthorn Shieldbugs

this is a Shieldbug larva - not a Hawthorn Shieldbug although it
was near the mating pair. Possibly a Forest Bug larva

a nice close-up of it
will get the identification confirmed by Buglife.

and another view

7-spot Ladybird larva

unidentified micro moth

Meadow Brown
7-spot Ladybird pupa

Orange Tip butterfly caterpillars

Speckled Wood

and another

and a third

Orchard Ermine moth caterpillar web

sickly looking Sloe
A Beris species Soldierfly.
The orange abdomen would make it vallata

Eristalis tenax

 another Eristalis species

The Wildlife Trust is running a beetle I.D. workshop in September
I'm hoping to go - details on the MWT website
This may be a Water Beetle -possbily Agabus?

can never remember the name of this one!

Common Valerian

a beautiful wild rose

aren't they delicate?
Whey Hey! One report down and only 5 to go!
