The forecast for next Saturday, 20th October, currently looks OK so
we'll hopefully be able to go ahead with our annual "raking party".
Tricia and the Muckers were able to get the two meadow areas at
Ballachurry cut with the heavy duty mower recently. The cut grass has
already been raked into rough piles so it now needs removing to the
compost heaps. We'll then try to strim and rake off again, all the same
day. So rakes and barrows needed, if possible, although there will be
some spares available.
Painting the hide
has been postponed for the time being but any spare time will be spent
on improving the water flow across the front of the reed bed, as we did
once before. A few reeds will need strimming down or cutting first,
then other vegetation raked out with sickles etc. Work gloves essential
as the cut reeds can be sharp. Wellies might be best for this job.
Always
the odd bramble to cut back, of course, in idle moments! So secateurs
and loppers might come in for the last half hour too.
Usual timing - 10 till 1 p.m. Refreshments half time.
Do hope some of you can make it along - thanks as always.
Sheila
PS - before setting out do check the Blog or your email (if on the volunteers list) if the weather conditions suggest a likely cancellation.
